The evidence across East Africa points one way. Where women hold real decision-making power in agriculture, household nutrition improves, children stay in school longer, and household savings grow.
ALDO builds its programmes around that evidence. Women take leading roles in community decision-making, and roughly 80 percent of the households ALDO reaches are led or represented by women. The organization's own leadership is evenly balanced between women and men.
This is not charity framed as empowerment. It is the most direct route to the outcomes every funder of this work says it wants.
